How to Make the Best Mojito

This ingredient will help you make a mojito mocktail that's so delicious you won't miss the booze.

Summer is coming and one of my favorite drinks is a citrusy mojito. There is one secret ingredient (not so secret anymore, ha!) that I use to make the world's best mojito: a lime zest simple syrup.

Lime zest simple syrup is just that: simple! Only three ingredients and easy to throw together and save in your fridge for weeks to help make delicious mojitos.

You're going to zest three limes into one cup of plain sugar with a microplane. Make sure to massage the zest into the sugar.

Add in one cup of boiling water and stir, then let cool. Strain the syrup into an air-tight container and remove the lime zest.

You're done! This simple syrup can be saved in the fridge for about two weeks. It's also a great addition to other recipes that call for lime and simple syrup like margaritas.

Ingredients

  • 3 limes

  • 1C sugar

  • 1C boiling water

Instructions

  1. Place 1C of sugar in a bowl.

  2. Using a microplane, zest all of the green skin of 3 limes into the sugar. Be careful to avoid the white part as much as possible and just zest the green skin.

  3. Mix the sugar and zest together by massaging it with your fingers to release the oil from the limes.

  4. Add in 1c of boiling water and stir. Let cool.

  5. Strain out the lime zest and store in an air-tight container.

  6. This can be stored in the fridge for weeks.

  7. For a mojito mocktail: place 4-5 slices of lime and mint leaves in a glass. Muddle well and then top with ice and club soda. Add in about 1oz (or to taste) of the lime zest simple syrup and stir. Cheers!
